The Mindset Behind Marketing That Works |
,
I’ve been thinking a lot about why some marketing campaigns succeed, and why others fall flat, even when the strategy is solid.
Here’s the hard truth: marketing only works when you’re ready to grow.
I hear it often:
“Marketing doesn’t work for us.”
“I feel like I’m wasting money.”
“I’m doing everything right, but nothing’s changing.”
But when we dig deeper, the issue often isn’t the strategy, it’s the mindset.
You need more appointments, more clients, more revenue. So you push hard to get marketing moving… but then can’t fulfill the leads, or don’t track what’s working, or fall back on vague messaging because it feels safer.
These aren’t marketing failures. They’re business alignment challenges. And they matter.

Let’s Talk About Goals, and Getting Real With the Numbers
When I begin planning advertising campaigns with clients, one of the first things I ask are three essential questions:
-
What’s the average value of a new sale or client?
-
How many leads do you need each month to hit your goals?
-
What’s your average lead-to-sale conversion rate?
From there, we build campaigns backward from data—offering options that match your goals, not just your budget.
And honestly? I’m often surprised by how many business owners and nonprofit leaders can’t answer these questions—but are still ready to spend thousands on marketing.
Here’s the truth: you can’t invest with intention if you don’t know what you’re aiming for. And when you don’t know your numbers, even the best strategy can become a guessing game.
Marketing doesn’t work without clear targets. But when we set those goals—real ones, backed by data—marketing becomes a growth engine instead of a gamble.

Marketing Is a Mirror
It reflects what’s happening inside your organization.
So if you’re ready to show up with purpose, offer something real, and invite others in—you’ll be amazed at what good strategy can do.
But it starts with getting honest about what’s working… and what’s not.
