I’ve been an independent business owner since 2008 and if I’ve learned anything in these years, it’s this: growth is relational.

Behind every client win, strategic opportunity, or bold career leap has been a conversation, a referral, or a moment of connection that sparked real momentum.

And this month, I’m leaning into that more than ever.

When you work for yourself, there’s no corporate ladder to climb. You build your own and for me, that means showing up in service to others while also boldly asking for support. I’ve become a connector, a pattern I picked up as a kid watching my parents run a golf course where deals, introductions, and lifelong networks were formed right at the counter.

Now, I run Agency Jen with the same spirit.

I don’t just ask for referrals, I give them. I’m constantly scanning my mental rolodex: Who do I know that can help this person? Whether it’s a trusted M&A consultant, a business coach, or a killer massage therapist to ease the tension from carrying it all—I want to connect good people with good solutions.

So this next series Odyssey News theme is all about the power of personal connection.
